Most protein bars are NOT safe for dogs. Many contain xylitol (extremely toxic to dogs), chocolate, raisins, or macadamia nuts — all dangerous for dogs. If your dog ate a protein bar, check the ingredients immediately and call your vet or ASPCA Poison Control (888-426-4435).

Protein bars can be dangerous for dogs due to several common ingredients. Xylitol (a sugar alcohol) is the biggest threat — even small amounts can cause life-threatening hypoglycemia and liver failure in dogs. Chocolate (theobromine), raisins, macadamia nuts, and high doses of caffeine are also toxic. Even "safe" bars are too high in protein and fat for dogs and can cause pancreatitis. Never feed protein bars to dogs intentionally.
